TROPICAL STORM is a fully professional Caribbean show band. The individual musicians' roots lead directly to the tropical islands of Barbados, Jamaica, Dominica, and principally, Trinidad, the home of the 'steel pan', arguably the most dynamic new instrument in world music. Now allow me to explain a little about the band's instrumentation. The line-up has as its core as a five piece outfit; drums, bass guitar, guitar, vocals, and of course steel pans, with several of the musicians 'doubling up' in either their playing or singing. Whilst experienced players in this field, however, the band members are generally in their early thirties and have both energy and versatility. The band play excellent reggae and their knowledge of Latin music is extensive. Consequently a typical TROPICAL STORM set might include three Soca tunes, a traditional Calypso, a Merengue, a Zouk number and two Reggae selections. This is not a boring one-groove band! Though some of TROPICAL STORM's music will be unrecognisable to the average member of a European audience, they play several familiar 'covers' of well known songs so that whilst very authentic they remain extremely accessible and highly danceable! The band often plays dates as a larger unit and rehearses as such. Consequently, the additional percussionists, keyboard players, vocalists and horn players they use are all familiar and eager draftees should your budget allow for them! To conclude TROPICAL STORM are guaranteed crowd pleasers and I hope this introduction has been informative and has further excited your interest in booking them for future engagements.
Having burst onto the scene in 1986, SOLID STEEL has long since established itself as the very best professional steel band in the UK, with an unbeatable reputation for reliability, stage presentation and, of course... musical excellence. The band's sound can be as mellow as a warm, tropical breeze or as vibrant as a West Indian street market - their repertoire ranging from beautiful Caribbean ballads such as 'ISLAND IN THE SUN' all the way to infectious calypsos like 'HOT HOT HOT'. All this is via modern popular and Latin American standards such as 'BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATER' and 'BRAZIL'. As comfortable performing on sophisticated ballads as the liveliest of uptempo tunes they boast a broad repertoire that encompasses calypso, soca, reggae, samba, salsa, merengue, cha cha cha, bossa nova, bolero and pop
" This... I wanna tell you is a Trenchtown experience... all the way from Trenchtown, Jamaica..." BOB MARLEY AND THE WAILERS. The MC`s introduction for Bob Marley`s show at the Rainbow Theatre in London in 1977 is now immortalised on one of the greatest live albums in rock history. Now in memory of that great band, this... I wanna tell you is the sound of Bob Marley and The Wailers... all the way from London, England...TRENCHTOWN EXPERIENCE!! Yes that`s right, a British band that dares to say it can sound like what was arguably the greatest Jamaican reggae band ever. Who are these guys? The band is a six to nine piece ensemble, drawn from London's top professional session players on the reggae scene. Dropping names is all too easy for these people, UB 40, Yellowman, Third World, Aswad, they've played with or for everybody who is anybody on the reggae scene. But they are not just jobbing musicians, they are fans too -fans of roots reggae in general and of Marley's brand of roots reggae circa the mid- seventies in particular. Bob Marley and The Wailers’ music had a hard edge to it at that time with rock influenced guitar lines and rebellious lyrics. This music crossed over like no Caribbean music had done before or has since and Marley himself was well on the way to becoming an icon. Trenchtown Experience’s aim is to evoke the spirit of Marley’s music at that time in homage to what was truly a great band, and they are determined to do it on their own terms. Unlike many tribute bands their aim is not to present a tongue-in-cheek pastiche of the original, but an accurate portrayal of both the look and the sound of the legendary band. Even so their show is never so ‘worthy’ as to lose any possible entertainment value. Indeed the band’s 60 or 90 minute shows feature solo spots absent in Marley’s stage show and far more interaction with the audience, (Marley himself hardly said a word between tunes!). So there you have it- a so-called ‘tribute’ band with artistic integrity. There was only one Bob Marley and The Wailers. Today there is only one Trenchtown Experience. Marley’s music is as popular now as it ever was and Trenchtown Experience is going to make a big impact both at home and abroad. But like the great man once said, ‘One good thing about music- when it hits you feel no pain’.

For two centuries, Rio was the capital of Brazil and it was in its former narrow streets that Portuguese "entrudo" first appeared. It was adjusted so well to the tropical climate that only a few decades later all the important towns in the country had joined in the spirit of carnival. It was in Rio that the majority of the extant forms of carnival in the country came about.Balls, "blocos", "cordoes", and "ranchos" abounded and set an example for all of Brazil. All this manifestation of joy and relaxed entertainment would reach its climate with the establishment of the samba schools. Samba schools are a typically carioca phenomenon, which represents a synthesis, as well as a consolidation of the essence of Brazilian Carnival. Famous worldwide, the carioca carnival is proud of having given birth to the universe of samba schools as a whole.
